Born in Los Angeles in 1960, Mark Kostabi is an American artist and composer who has emerged in the East Village art scene since the 1980s. A provocative figure of the mass media who made self-interviews to reflect on the commodification of contemporary art.
Beginning in 1987, artworks made by Mark Kostabi have been widely exhibited in galleries in New York, the United States, Japan, Germany and Australia. In 1988 he established Kostabi World, his Manhattan art studio, in which he employs numerous assistants in the creation of his artworks.
